VETERINARIANS
Dr. Judi Freid is the owner of Veterinary Medical Center. She received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1986 at MSU. Dr. Freid founded Veterinary Medical Center in 1993 together with one technician. Dr. Freid has been a practicing veterinarian for 20 years. She has also worked as an independent consultant
for a major pharmaceutical company for 3 years
compiling and reporting data on drug safety as well as
guiding other veterinarians regarding drug use. She
strongly believes in providing individual care to both
her patients and their owners. She strives to maintain
a small town atmosphere at the clinic while
providing progressive medicine/surgery. When a client
needs to speak with a veterinarian/technician, they will
receive a timely return call and/or appointment. Dr. Freid
enjoys spending time with her family which includes a
husband and 16 year-old daughter. She has multiple pets
which include a 3-legged Chihuahua, a Doberman, and 2 cats. All were rescued from various shelters or abandoned at the clinic. Dr. Freid was voted one of the "best vets" of 2006 by an independent firm, Consumer Research Council of America.
Dr. Carrie Bonemer graduated with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 2003. She originally began practicing at Veterinary Medical Center on Saturdays while also working at the Michigan Department of Community Health in the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Section. Her focus was on public health surveillance of West Nile virus, Lyme disease and rabies. Dr. Bonemer loves interacting with both patients and their owners and she thoroughly enjoys the atmosphere and practice philosophy of the Veterinary Medical Center. Dr. Bonemer now dedicates her work exclusively to small animal practice. She is currently available at the clinic on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. When not at the clinic, Dr. Bonemer is a very involved with her 3 and 5 year-old sons. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, her German Shorthair Pointer mix, and her 3 cats which were all rescued from various shelters or abandoned. Dr. Bonemer is an avid MSU Spartan fan, practices yoga regularly, and enjoys beaded jewelry making.
Dr. Gretchen Hui graduated from MSU with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in May 2003. Before joining Veterinary Medical Center in May 2009 she worked at a small and exotic animal practice in Ann Arbor for six years. During her time at MSU she gained knowledge about exotic pet medicine and surgery through her work at other universities, zoos, wildlife rehabilitation centers, and by participating in toxicology research with a variety of birds in Uganda. She hopes to provide the same quality care you have grown to expect for your cats and dogs to the exotic pets in the Howell area. When she is not at the clinic she enjoys spending time with her husband, friends, and trying to keep up with her two year old daughter. The rest of her family includes a mixed breed dog, three cats, and a turtle that have all come from various rescue groups in the surrounding area. Her other hobbies include volleyball, hiking, rollerblading, watching college sports, yoga/Pilates, and just about anything that will allow her to be outdoors.
Wendy Chubb is a long-standing veterinary medical center team member. In 2006, she took a year off but retured to her veterinary assistant/office assistant duties last summer. In her time away, she worked as a sales coordinator but found she missed her "furry friends". Wendy has now worked at Veterinary Medical Center for over 7 years. She has experience in all aspects of the clinic's workings and keeps things running smoothly. In her spare time, she enjoys playing with her 3 dogs and 2 cats, going horseback riding, and golfing. Wendy's most recent additions to her "family" include a rescued schanuzer/scottie mix named "Cookie" and an abandoned long haired siamese-mix kitten named "Kenny. On February 9th, Wendy welcomed her first child, Wyatt!
ERIN SHAW joined our staff as a veterinary assistant this spring. She graduated from the University of Michigan in the spring of 2008 with a degree in biology. Erin has been admitted to MSU veterinary school this fall. Ultimately her goal is to practice large animal or mixed animal medicine. She volunteers at Horses Haven in Howell, as well, to supplement her veterinary experience. In her spare time, she enjoyes playing sports, reading, and spending time with her 2 Labrador retreivers, Udo and Ella. Erin is a huge fan of Michigan football and hockey, as well at the Detroit Red Wings.
